Chapter 4 | Everyday Encounters

Gey Xian

Dashing Theater

A temple courtyard becomes a shifting field of ritual and performance. Traditional forms are not reproduced but rearranged, allowing familiar structures to appear in unfamiliar ways.
The body moves between roles and gestures, where meaning is no longer fixed. What unfolds is not a reenactment of tradition, but a transformation taking place in real time.

Dashing Theater

Dashing Theater was founded in 2019 by choreographer Huang Huai-De. The company works through physical performance that draws from both traditional and contemporary vocabularies, questioning how cultural forms are carried, transformed, and reinterpreted.
Its work often engages with social structures embedded in performance traditions, using movement as a way to rethink identity, gender, and training systems within dance.
